Father’s Day is tomorrow and I’ve been mentally preparing for sometime. When you are lonely this father’s day, remember to think about all the things you DO have in your life. Make a list of all the things you DO HAVE and FILL UP your life. This will help you with father’s day tomorrow.

You may want to reach out to the father figures in your life, your uncles, friends, and the like who are dad’s and wish them a happy day. Or not, it’s up to you. Really try to be patient with yourself as you go through emotions. Perhaps carry a journal with you tomorrow, even if you don’t write, so you can write down your feelings if you want to. That way, you can continue to enjoy the day.

I know sometimes when I have feelings that are hard I don’t want to tell anyone because I don’t want to ruin anyone’s day or bring anyone down. If you have friends or loved ones who are open minded and able to deal with feelings, perhaps you can ask them for support. Something like “tomorrow is going to be hard for me. I was wondering if you could be available to text, call or talk to tomorrow. It will help me feel better knowing I have someone I can count on to listen to me and my feelings about my dad (or father’s day).” Something like that. Have a few friends. Actually, I am  in this moment inspired to put on my facebook that very message. You may not want to put it out there like that but at this point I’ve used facebook a lot in the past for support and it’s totally helped.

Tomorrow is the first father’s day my girlfriend, Catherine, is going to have. I have been through 6 father’s days without my dad and I am more able to support her through this. Whatever we decide to do tomorrow, our follow UP is getting our season passes to Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ and going on rollercoasters!

Be KIND to yourself tomorrow. Let yourself feel whatever you need to feel. Have back up. Have support. Have a place to talk to yourself if you need to – journal OR iPhone/smart phones have audio recorders, that could be good, too. Take a break if you need to. Be alone if you need to. Be surrounded by people if you need to. Have someone to talk to. Be okay with it all. Be kind to yourself. Surrender and let go.
